This retreat is designed to be inspiring, not exhausting. Every photography session is optional, so you’re welcome to dip in and out throughout the week. Whether you choose to join every workshop, spend an afternoon relaxing by the pool, indulge in a traditional hammam, or wander off with your camera in search of your own discoveries, this is your retreat to enjoy in whatever way feels right for you.
NB. You can opt to dip in and out of each morning or afternoon session and do not have to cover the whole schedule if you prefer to take some time to relax at the accommodation, pamper yourself at a local hammam or explore by yourself.
The accomodation
Essaouira
Essaouira
A beachfront haven for creative retreats. Set above one of Morocco’s most beautiful wild beaches, this boutique hideaway in Sidi Kaouki, just 10 miles south of Essaouira. With sweeping views of rolling dunes, the Atlantic surf, and the dramatic coastline, it’s a place where photographers instantly feel inspired. A serene, elevated refuge overlooking the ocean with spa facilities and luxuries facilities.
Marrakech
Marrakech
Your private sanctuary in the heart of the medina. Just three minutes from the vibrant Jamaa El-Fna square, this calm, elegant refuge feels worlds away from the bustle outside. Created by three friends of Berber origin, the road embodies the warmth, generosity and legendary hospitality of Amazigh culture. It’s place where guests are welcomed ‘like at home’ – a sentiment that runs through every detail of the experience.
For a photography retreat, it offers the perfect balance: authentic Medina atmosphere, beautiful traditional architecture, and quiet corners ideal for rest, editing, and connection. This place will be exclusive for the duration of the retreat.

Who is Nina Assam?
Nina Assam is a London-based professional photographer with over 26 years’ experience and the founder of Soora and Product & Packshot Pix. Having previously worked with leading international tour operators including TUI, First Choice and Elegant Resorts, she combines extensive photographic expertise with a genuine passion for people, culture and storytelling. Fluent in Arabic, Nina creates authentic, immersive experiences that help women of all abilities build confidence, develop their creative eye and capture meaningful images in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Nina chose to make her retreats exclusively for women because she believes there’s something truly special about bringing like-minded women together. The friendships, encouragement and shared experiences often last long after the retreat has ended. She also believes many women approach photography differently – not better or worse, simply differently. Rather than focusing solely on technical
perfection, they often connect more instinctively with the people, places and emotions around them, creating images that tell stories and evoke feeling. Her retreats are designed to nurture that way of seeing while providing the skills and confidence to grow as a photographer.
Nina has travelled to Morocco several times and understands the light and people. Her love of all things Moroccan truly shines and she’s excited to share all that she knows about the best way to photograph this country with others.

Suggested equipment to bring
- DSLR Camera or Mirrorless digital (fixed lens or DSLR)
- 24-70mm lens or alike (multi use lens for everything)
- 14mm or 16mm lens for sprawling landscapes (fish eye perfect for landscapes)
- 70-200mm Zoom (for when you want to capture detail from afar)
- Fixed 28mm or 50mm lens (Lightweight and good for travel landscapes)
- Also happy to work with film cameras if keen to bring. Nina always carries a medium format Rolleiflex T.
- Lightweight travel Tripod
If you only have one lens, try to get something with a built in zoom, but if you only have one fixed width lens, thats fine. Happy to guide accordingly. Whilst you are very welcome to also use your camera phone, I would suggest this as a second tool to get the most out of the retreat.
We will also send out a list of reputable camera hire companies upon receiving your deposit.

After breakfast, we’ll head into the enchanting medina of Essaouira to explore its colourful markets, bustling streets and artisan workshops. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to photograph daily life while learning techniques for capturing authentic travel images.
Our morning begins at the stunning Jardin Majorelle, where vibrant colours, exotic plants and beautiful architecture offer endless creative inspiration.
Today we’ll leave the city behind and journey into the spectacular Atlas Mountains with a knowledgeable local guide.
